Australia's retail alcohol market is dominated by two players: Coles Group and Endeavour Group (who demerged from Woolworths in June 2021). To further increase profits, Endeavour and Coles import liquor under misleading names and load up their stores with these difficult to spot 'phantom brands', often undercutting the well known brands. To get a slice of Australia's $16 billion beer industry, both companies have introduced their own phantom brand beers.
