Fair trade coffee co-operative
Cooperativa Cafe Timor (CCT) was founded in 2000, when a group of farmers united in an attempt to successfully market their coffee internationally. The organisation has grown to include 19,600 members from 16 base cooperatives and 494 small-scale farmer groups. CCT obtained Fair Trade certification from Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) in 2001. It has since changed certification body to Fair Trade USA (which has some criticisms).

Low coffee prices for farmers
According to this article, East Timorese farmers that produce the Fairtrade coffee are not paid any more per kg of coffee than other farmers. Fairtrade certification guarantees that the
cooperative gets a base price per kilo of coffee, not the farmer. Farmers producing Fairtrade coffee in East Timor are still living below the poverty line.
