Criticism
Fined for copyright infringement
In January 2019, the Commercial Court of Rome determined that Vimeo's video-hosting platform played an “active role” in copyright infringement and the posting of Italian television programs owned by media conglomerate Mediaset. After Vimeo declined to remove over 2,000 copyrighted videos at the request of Mediaset, the company was forced to pay US$9,700,000 in penalties.
Information
D rating at ClickClean.org
Greenpeace's 2017 report 'Clicking Clean' looks at the energy footprints of large data centre operators and popular websites and applications, and calls on these companies to power their data centres on renewable energy. Companies are graded (A,B,C,D,F) on their commitment to and procurement of renewable energy, as well as energy efficiency, transparency and advocacy. This company's final grade was D. CEO Pay Ratio of 58:1
In 2024 the median pay for a worker at this company was US$143,986. The CEO was paid 58 times this amount. Exorbitant CEO pay is a major contributor to rising inequality. CEOs are getting more because of their power to set pay, not because they are increasing productivity or possess specific, high-demand skills. The economy would suffer no harm if CEOs were paid less (or taxed more). In contrast, the CEO-to-typical-worker compensation ratio was 20-to-1 in 1965 and 58-to-1 in 1989.
Medium ESG Risk
Sustainalytics, a top ESG research firm, evaluates environmental, social, and governance risks for over 16,000 companies. Its ESG Risk Rating reflects how much risk a company faces in its industry and how well it manages those risks. The final score includes both unmanaged and unmanageable risks, and companies are rated on a scale from negligible (0-10) to severe (40+). This company received an ESG Risk Rating of 26.2, placing it in the "medium risk" category (retrieved April 2025).

Information
Layoffs and controversial app changes
This company has faced backlash for its post-acquisition strategy of implementing steep layoffs to streamline operations, often gutting original teams shortly after buyouts. In February 2023, it cut 129 employees from Evernote, followed by restrictions on the free plan to just 50 notes in November 2023, which drew user ire over reduced accessibility. The pattern repeated with Filmic, where the entire staff was laid off in December 2023 after its 2022 acquisition. In July 2024, Bending Spoons acquired WeTransfer and axed 75% of its workforce by September 2024, then capped free transfers at 10 per month starting December 2024, sparking complaints of aggressive monetization.
