Merisant was formed when a group of investors purchased the business from Monsanto in March, 2000. Merisant controls about one-fifth of the global aspartame market. Their stevia based sweetener PureVia was developed in partnership with PepsiCo. Acquired by Whole Earth Brands in 2020.
